What happened

  • A doctor involved in commissioning complained about an email invitation for a haemophilia webinar organised and funded by Swedish Orphan Biovitrum Ltd (Sobi), held with a named patient organisation.
  • The email subject line and title referenced: “Beyond the National Services Division Review”.
  • The complainant alleged the title was misleading because it referenced the National Services Division (NSD) and its ongoing review, without NSD permission/endorsement, and could be misinterpreted by clinicians.
  • The email also stated the webinar was “not connected in any way” to the NSD review into the risk sharing scheme for inherited bleeding disorders products and the Scottish Inherited Bleeding Disorders Network (SIBDN).
  • Sobi said the event and invitation were intended to be non-promotional; the invitation contained no brand names or SPC information.
  • After the complaint (11 September 2020), Sobi cancelled the webinar (16 September 2020) and informed the complainant.
⚖️

Outcome

  • No breach of Clause 7.2.
  • No breach of Clause 9.1.
  • No appeal.
